It's about damn time we treat the housing crisis like a legitimate crisis, diverting more of our national resources to solving it directly, repealing the Faircloth Amendment, prioritizing public housing, creating regulatory fast lanes, adopting a humane, Housing First approach.

Since 1999, HUD's budget has more than doubled, and yet, affordable supply has fallen well short of demand, rents have skyrocketed, and homelessness has risen 80%.

That's because, like most things, we turned affordable housing into a profit enterprise, paying more for less.

In the first 2 months of this campaign, crisscrossing a huge district, speaking in rooms big and small, one thing is undeniable: The working class is restless, angry, and activated.

It's time to stop fighting each other over scraps and start working together to flip some f---ing tables.

For $20B, the U.S. could effectively eradicate homelessness. This almost perfectly mirrors what we spend to police & brutalize unhoused Americans every year.

On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we must offer more than platitudes. We must correct injustice, provide restitution, honor treaties, return stolen land, support sovereignty & self-determination – be it for Native tribes in Northern Michigan or the dispossessed people of Palestine.

The Citizens United decision corrupted our government to work for billionaires and special interests. Luckily, you still have a choice in who you give your vote and donations. Do your homework and make sure you’re supporting candidates who work for you, not special interests.

The Republican Party is so intent on closing your rural hospitals, increasing your health insurance premiums, and taking food off the plates of hungry kids that they were willing to shut down the government.

Yet another act of gun violence has left Michiganders mourning their neighbors and questioning their own safety. My heart aches for the families of the victims and hopes for the recovery of survivors.

This remains a uniquely American epidemic. It's time to ban assault weapons.
