Content of the orange ones is weird... none of them get close to 40% even in "their own" age group. Would be interested to see, say "hit me baby one more time" graph, would expect it to be a lot higher in the orange category

@adamboxereducation.bsky.social whilst I agree with a lot of the changes in the 2010s it’s a shame to hear NG describe grid method multiplication as a nonsense method.

It’s grounded in understanding the structure of the maths and is based on an area model - the most concrete example we have.

BUT LOOK - we have some many inequities in our maths exams: kids who get the more expensive calculators get easier marks, kids whose parents can afford frivolous appeals will have grades changed

However, I emailed the parent and said "you could give it a go and see if you get a more lenient marker"

reviewed a gcse paper. my view was harsh marking but that i could see why dropped marks. one paper had 4 marks dropped for what I viewed as stringent reasons, such as fraction lines not going all the way across and 2hrs 45 mins being written as 2.45hrs.
