Why "man accused". He pled guilty and was sentenced. And why man but not terrorist? One of the counts he pled guilty to was a terrorism charge. He is LITERALLY a convicted terrorist. Come on CNN, do better. Unless you only use the big T word when it's someone on the left?

I've played a few hundred hours of Rust & it's a red herring. Including the Steam screenshots in the article is a red herring, his is no different than millions of other Steam users and they aren't out there shooting people.

Scapegoating video games for shootings went out of style with CD players.

It wasn't playing Rust that made him do this. It's a decently popular survival game that came out 12 years ago. You run around collecting shit and building fortresses then defending them from other players. Hell, a chunk of that time probably was spent idling on the server screens.

It's not that kind of game that you "beat". Rust is a survival game where the official servers wipe every month, so every month you start from scratch on whatever servers you play on, plus there were constant changes and updates to the game. It's not like playing Mario Bros over & over.

Yep. His Steam account is 14 years old and those games are pretty old. Spread those hours out over 14 years and it's under 2 hours a day. Compare that to how much most people watch tv per day, or doom scroll on social media, and it's pretty normal.

It's a calculated grab for Kirk's audience. Vance knows Trump's time is short. If he has any hope of a political future he has to find some kind of base.

So he's trying to spin the tragedy by connecting himself to Kirk right after & gain Kirk's audience's favor.

And it was done clumsily.
