Yeah perhaps. But I think it’s a step in the right direction from “they ran for 150 yards vs XYZ” because you need more context about the game conditions that lead to it.

could have been conceded by formation and coverage because it was a fine outcome that would lead to a punt in the same way a 2 yrd rush would, therefore you play defense to prevent the 25 yd pass. So I would value the 13 yds on 1st and 10 more as a predictor of "can we run the ball vs them".

I disagree a little bit. Hitting a home run is the objective best outcome in all cases and is never conceded by the defense.

But a 13 yd run on 3rd and 20 vs a 13 rd run on 1st and 10 are not the same. In the latter its bad by the defense whereas in the former its a fine outcome by the defense and

I had to go look at the schedule to see if that was possible lol.

The next three being at home and with a bye before Duke makes me worry theyre gonna win 8 or 9. Not that they couldnt stub their toe, but the last too they have looked decent enough to get through the remainder ok.

Yeah Godfrey said they should go after him. It was less about getting him and more about spreading the rumors that their process was exhaustive and going to look under every rock so that when they eventually get their guy they can stand on the process being robust. I found it an interesting idea.

Do they need that much? With his buyout being offset by anything new he might take a cheap contract somewhere he likes if it comes with good assistant pay.

But the the NBA rules are not holding them to the same standard as a legal argument. The NBA rules say that its cap circumvention if it cannot be reasonably explained... and the circumstantial evidence does feel like it satisfies that bar to me.
