The most common type of fly-tipping we see are fridges. Lewisham Council's bulky item service will collect them for £60! The council provides no financial help and does not offer assisted collections!
I asked a question to the council about their service's affordability and accessibility. (see pics)

Collection fees
mattresses (any size): £14 each
up to four household items (such as carpet, chairs, beds or sofas): £41
fridges or freezers: £60 (we can't collect American-style or double door fridges or freezers)
Please note
the collection fee is non-refundable, so you'll still be charged even if you cancel the booking before your items are collected – this is to cover the administrative and operational costs involved in arranging a collection
we do not collect items from inside properties and can't help carry them outside

The bulky item collection service is expensive without a guarantee that the item will be collected due to confusing instructions about the item cannot be within a property and not on the pavement, which doesn't leave anywhere for it to go, how are you making this service cheaper and less confusing, especially for those on lower incomes and those with disabilities for example?

Items for collection should be placed within the property boundary, but not indoors. Suitable locations include a front garden, driveway, or other easily accessible space. It’s important that items are clearly visible and reachable by the collection crew on the scheduled day to ensure successful pickup.

The Council recognises concerns around affordability - particularly for residents on lower incomes or with disabilities - and is actively reviewing the service to make it more accessible, affordable, and user-friendly. This includes providing clearer instructions and exploring potential support options for vulnerable residents.

Disappointing but not surprising by Labour. This has happened in a London borough where these policies would directly help so many people, where child and youth services have been cut for years and also where Thames Water has cut water to houses, not repaired leaks, routinely raised prices and more.
