One New Year's resolution I made is finally hopping on the media thread bandwagon.
I didn't get to post about this earlier, but D'Angelo passing really sucks. One of those cases where an artist really improved on his craft over time and went out on a high note (yeah I like Black Messiah more than Voodoo). He had his inner demons, but he was a true artist.
Can we do Reddit atheism again, but wokely this time?
Israel has killed at least 9 Palestinians since the ceasefire, including a journalist. And the people in Gaza are still denied the right to govern themselves.
#414. The Bad Guys 2

A Lupin III story for kids and furries, and also scalies. There’s a butch cat lady and an autism-coded hog lady. Mr. Snake is super horny in this one. ACAB, fuck ICE, etc.
Morgan Wallen is Drake for white men while Taylor Swift is Drake for white women.
#413. Hell of a Book - Jason Mott

I get the sentiment, and I get why Mott wrote it when he did. I just wish it was a better novel.
I mean, John Scalzi is very openly an asshole and his books still do well.
Thinking about that one throwaway George Carlin bit where we call Israeli murderers commandos and Arab commandos terrorists.
The Gaza genocide might be the first since the dawn of the 20th century where liberal democracies in the west support the country committing the genocide to one degree or other. With the Holocaust or even the Armenian genocide this would’ve been unthinkable, but not so now.
Ranma 1/2 uses harem comedy tropes but is ultimately a subversion in that it's made very clear (especially in the new show) that this is a love story between Ranma and Akane. Hope this helps!
#412. s/t - They Might Be Giants

Some of the production is very '80s, in a way that I feel may have been uninentional and just a product of the time. But this is a good deal of fun. I didn't laugh out loud at any of the joke lines, but these are some catchy songs.
#411. True Names - Vernor Vinge (reread)

Still honestly impressive that this was published three years before Neuromancer, and also packs about as much mindbending shit into just a hundred pages.
Got a few people into Steely Dan recently, I be doing God’s work.
So much great American literature, especially following the end of WWI, despite this country’s propensity for philistinism and backwardness culturally.
Wild that the founding fathers had the foresight to come up with the 3rd amendment but could not muster the moral fiber to abolish chattel slavery.
Thinking about how the streak Square had from 1991 until the merger with Enix in 2003 might be the greatest run for a game developer ever.
We never get a clear answer as to what extent Perfidia and Lockjaw’s relationship is consensual, which will inevitably ruffle some feathers, but I think it’s fascinating.
“How woke is Pynchon?” Pynchon was poking fun at Zionists and Ayn Rand in 1963.
The Nobel committee could’ve easily given it to Salman Rushdie and Greta Thunberg, people who have risked their very skin for their art and activism respectively, people who actually stand for human rights, but they just went in the total opposite direction.
Am I the last person here to have gotten Shadow Ticket?
