It's 2025, it's social media, so the law says I have to make a thread sharing all games I play this year.

Look, I don't make the rules.
Oh, and that is Silksong reinstalled - but with some mods designed to shave off the most frustrating and time-wasting corners.

You're absolutely welcome! Happy to be of service!

Bare in mind it's still just my very subjective opinion, it might still click for you! But aye, it's just not clicking for me.
24) Silksong

I go into it more in another thread, but basically - beautifully crafted, but demands too much perfection from the player before they've really got their foot in the door.

The number of gauntlet rooms feel like a lazy alternative to more of the great level design and enemy encounters
It really is, and honestly, I'm just sad more than anything. I've fallen in love with the world, but can't abide the way I'm meant to experience it.
All of this is so negative, so let me be clear, there is a fantastic game there for those that adore this kind of design.

For me...it's a completely different beast to the first HK, and therefore it means it's simply not my jam.
Also - gauntlet rooms. HK used them sparingly enough that they were a fun diversion.

But the sheer number of them here really gets to me. I play Metroidvania for interesting level design and enemy placement, and multiple blank room being filled with enemies just seems a lazy alternative to that.
HK also took it's time getting to the hardest challenges - it let you build up the skill set over the whole adventure.

SS demands much more from the start. It's asking you to do pogo runbacks to a boss that will kill in three hits whilst summoning in extra stuff before the end of act 1.
Silksong is beautifully and lovingly created, it's clear that it's a labour of love. And I adore that it's clicked with so many.

But it doesn't with me. I hate that it demands perfection. It feels like each boss or challenge room demands a 100% no hit approach, more so than in HK.
And, sadly, that's Silksong uninstalled.

Hollow Knight is in my top three of all time, it's an absolute masterpiece. But Silksong just doesn't live up to it for me.

There is just nothing fun, to me, about combat challenge rooms everywhere, or bosses summoning in extra things.

Look, if you continued to support WWE morally/financially after literally everything immoral they've done, then I don't know what to tell ya.
Cyberpunk 2077 really is the most mentally challenging game out there, as it asks you to try and imagine a dystopian future where Keanu Reeves is an asshole.
That's good to hear mate =) fingers crossed I take to it as well as you seem to be!
Any other Hollow Knight players a little intimidated before going into Silksong?

I hear very often that Hornet has a vast toolset, and you need to use all of it.

I loved HK for it's simplicity - it allows that magical flow state more naturally.

Having a vast toolset feels a bit overwhelming.
It's very sad for us to see, but the most important thing in this is you. I think we'd all prefer to see you with the freedom to chase your passions, rather than have to stick with something you're losing faith in!

Thank you for just being a stand up lovely dude, and best of luck in all you do! ♥️
I legitimately cannot comprehend that this is real. That it's not a meme or a joke - it's real and it's being delivered to me as we speak
Even when it's out, Silksong is still delayed.

Every day we move further away from "be nice and kind to everyone without prejudice" being the default value of the civilised world.

And folk wonder why we're getting unhappier and unhappier with our lot in life.
When you time a Red Guardian just right (ie the only good play I'll do this season)

23) Dredge

I'm not going to lie - when I'm not playing Dredge, I don't sit thinking about it. It doesn't live in the brainpan the same way other games do.

But when it's in my hands, it takes over, and forces me to be calm and cosy. And a little spooked now and again.

It's also so very more-ish!
Thank you very much! So lucky to have ran into such a lovely person!
Thanks mate! Whoever it is, I hope they're happy knowing they're putting a little bit of joy back into the community =)
