An impromptu- let’s do Stormies evening, as there was supposed to be cloud and calm weather, had the group down on the shoreline at 2320. Within 1/2 hr we were watching a Storm Petrel circling the nets under a quite bright full moon.

Over the next 2 hours we trapped three Stormies and a Manxy.
Next morning was a mix of ringing - not much unfortunately, sea watching and wader roost. Sea watching produced a juvenile Sabine’s Gull and 30 Common Dolphins.

The afternoon was free time for the students, then the evening saw the whole team out after dark.
And wildsounds.com

So our ten fresh faced students arrived last Saturday on a bumpy crossing, given the intro talk and walk and the fed copious amounts of Chilli on a beautiful evening, followed by a few beers and awesome views of the full moon in our @darkskyintl.bsky.social Dark Sky Sanctuary
Well it’s been a fantastic week for our University students over the past seven days.

We’ve been so busy with them we have hardly had time to post updates so here goes. First and foremost thanks to our sponsors. @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social @britishbirds.bsky.social

Ringing at the Obs this morning produced a few local breeders including this Magpie.
Our first Storm Petrel ringing session of the year tonight saw about 25 birds flying around close inshore (as seen through the Thermal Imaging Scope). However, catching the first one of the year is always a delight.
And this singing immature male Common Rosefinch was found by @ewanturner.bsky.social at Nant today.
This superb male Red-backed Shrike was found by Colin (our volunteer) yesterday morning. It was still present today. Occasionally singing today and becoming more wide ranging, even visiting the Obs at one point.
Rather nice male Red-backed Shrike found by Colin our volunteer yesterday morning.
We still have three places left. Book now before it’s too late!
