Review: Realistic characters, well-written action and a crackingly fast pace, all in a fascinating world I'd like to know more about. Is it any surprise that I gave it five stars?

The Click of a Pebble
I really enjoyed this YA fantasy. The world Ms. Spencer creates is intriguing, and serves as a fantastic backdrop to her characters' journeys into adulthood, complete with the difficult decisions one must make. I hope this series goes on for a while!

Katherine February 2020 Heart wrenching novel of epic scope! I picked this book for the title-I love swans-but this far exceeded my hopes. Ms Spencer has woven a tale of magic and myth that will live in my heart and head forever!
5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written story with a hint of mystery

'I most enjoyed about Barbara Spencer’s novel was the beautiful descriptions and the warm family scenes she created in a post-war city, which I presumed to be Amsterdam.'

I have now finished reading 'The Year The Swans Came' and I loved it. In fact I didn’t want to put it down. I marvel at how clever you are to have that slightly sinister undercurrent running throughout the gripping story. It was wonderful. mybook.to/Year-Swans-Came
It is the rare author that can render the voice of a 14-year-old boy with as much depth and believability as she can bring to a somewhat hardened going-on-thirty social worker - but Spencer manages this feat hands down.

Thank you for this inspiring story, Barbara Spencer.
I had put off reading this book, feeling it would have content that would make my heart ache. I was right, it did indeed make my heart ache but don’t let that a put you off, for this book is so worth reading.

Broken by Barbara Spencer
Sometimes you get lucky and happen upon a writer who knows how to bring the reader right to the edge of despair and then, like a magician, she waves her wand and makes it all come out right. Barbara Spencer is like that.

I really enjoyed The Year the Swans Came, so when I saw The Click of a Pebble on Netgalley, I was very excited. I love the prequel idea and how Zande became who he is though this novel focuses more on Yost, the elder.

I really enjoyed this fantasy which revolves around young characters trying to survive and make sense of disaster. The world Ms. Spencer creates is intriguing, and serves as a fantastic backdrop. I hope this series goes on for a while!
