Analysis suggests that the specimen has in fact developed biological traits in line with those of awakened species. This would suggest that something beyond genetics plays a factor in the awakening of bugs.

Sprintmaster Swift and his companion

some pen sketches of silksong NPCs. Sprintmaster Swift is a thin-limbed beetle with long antennae. In one sketch, he's sprinting with a determined gleam to his eye. Apollyon works in the Hive around a lot of bees. One of the reasons why they’re allowed to is, intentional or not, Apollyon’s species mimics the scent of honey bees. Many in the Hive think they’re just a much larger type of bee.

Varga sits contemplatively. Second Sentinel stands with its back mostly to the viewer though it looks over its shoulder. Widow is in a dynamic, crouching ready pose. Huge Flea sits happily on the ground and two smaller fleas are cozy against it. There is a little doodle of Greyroot sticking out from the side of the page.
