Being a protector of children's hearts & being a child soldier don't work well together
The reason why those the protectors are so to begin with is that they themselves aren't children anymore & recognize the need to protect something that can be lost forever once you're older

Some ppl prob miss the fact that Yareli & Nokko are a take on the common stoic & strong archetypes of "Protectors"
Giving them whimsical & child at heart natures is a spin on that
IMHO making them children would stray away their stories from protectors to more like child soldiers

I rmbr watching the Dororo 2019 remake when it released way back when I was playing Sekiro, so it's nice comparing what changed and what was the focus with Tezuka's original intentions
2019 was a cool year being fascinated by the folklore/mythology + medieval period of Late Sengoku & Muromachi Japan
