2/2: The defendants used legal loopholes to become court-appointed probate administrators of the estates of about 200 deceased strangers. They then sold at least 90 estate homes collectively worth more than $28 million, collecting large and unjustified commissions and fees for themselves.

We stand in solidarity with AG James and others who have been targeted for reasons wholly antithetical to the pursuit of justice. We commit to doing all we can to ensure that the rule of law prevails and to resist the further corrosion of our system of justice. https://ow.ly/27wM50XaMc4

Every state should be pushing back against the president’s illegal use of the military to intimidate Americans. It’s terrible that we have to spend time protecting Americans from their own president, but there is no other option with so much at stake for our future. -NB

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples' Day and acknowledge the enduring history of Washington state's 29 federally recognized tribes, and all Indigenous people. As we reflect on their resilience and contributions, we turn to a powerful symbol of healing and tradition: the Bentwood Box by Edgar Charlie.
Indigenous Peoples' Day. Bentwood Box artwork by Edgar Charlie. The artwork is a stylized, symmetrical design in black, white, orange, and teal. It features a central face-like figure with prominent eyes and mouth, surrounded by abstract shapes that evoke animal forms. The top border of the artwork includes a repeating pattern of handprints. At the bottom of the image, there is a circular seal with "ATTORNEY GENERAL OF WASHINGTON" written around it and a balance scale in the center.
Bentwood Box artwork by Edgar Charlie. A symmetrical, stylized illustration in black, white, orange, and teal, depicting a traditional Bentwood Box. The main design on the front features a central face with large orange eyes and a wide black mouth, surrounded by smaller faces and traditional formline elements.

The text on the image reads:

"Bentwood boxes have multiple meanings, including a symbol of reconciliation, a traditional storage container, and a burial box:

Symbol of reconciliation: The Bentwood Box is a sacred box that honors residential school survivors and commemorates the journey toward healing and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Traditional storage container: Bentwood boxes are a traditional storage container used by the cultures of the Pacific Northwest Coast. They are often adorned with clan crests or personal designs and are cherished heirlooms passed down through generations." Edgar Charlie's Bentwood Box artwork is a highly stylized, symmetrical design in the traditional Northwest Coast formline style, using black, white, orange, and teal.

The main image is a rectangular box-like form with a stylized face in the center, featuring a large orange oval surrounding the eyes and mouth, with black and white features. Flanking the central face are two stylized bird or animal figures in black and teal, one on each side. The entire design is contained within a larger, decorative border that suggests the lid of the box.

Below the image, text describes the artwork:

Burial box: When a person died, their body would be folded to fit into the box and placed in a grave house, mortuary pole, or even in the tops of trees that leaned over water.

The crying face represents us as people, past and present, and remembering—the 4 ovoids and the hands represent the people and the children that are gone and still with us all in a sacred box of treasures. The masks being upside down is (sic) our ancestors in the spherical world holding us all up.

It marks a dangerous moment for our country. We can choose to be governed by the rule of law, or the whims of an authoritarian. Without a renewed commitment to America’s founding principles, we are perilously close to the latter.

Thursday’s indictment of New York AG Letitia James is another shot across the bow of democracy. Pres Trump explicitly directed the DOJ to target AG James and fired the former U.S. Attorney in the District when he refused to do so. This brazen abuse of power is antithetical to our history and values.

Concerns about transparency and integrity in govt are at an all-time high, and officials have an obligation to uphold the spirit of the Public Records Act. We welcome the public’s input into these model rules aimed at helping stage agencies increase transparency and responsiveness to requests.
Press proposal to improve transparency in WA advances
New rules for providing access to public records sought by the press should increase government transparency in Washington and benefit all state residents.

2/2: Our office remains committed to using every available tool to ensure equal treatment under the law so that everyone in Washington can live with dignity and respect. Thank you to the Queer Collective for their leadership in making sure our LGBTQ+ communities are heard, valued, and protected.
A man in a white shirt (left) stands facing a young woman in a red hoodie (right). Both are looking at each other intently. The woman is holding a smartphone and some papers, interviewing the man. They are standing indoors against a plain, light-colored wall. Three individuals are standing side-by-side and smiling for a photo. From left to right: a woman with long dark hair wearing a maroon shirt, a man in a white button-down shirt in the center, and an older woman with long grey hair and glasses on her head wearing a light-colored cardigan. Photos are displayed on the wall behind them. A man in a white shirt (left) is facing a woman with long, wavy hair (right) who is wearing a dark jacket over a blue shirt, and they are engaged in conversation. 1/2: The Queer Collective's community gathering at Tacoma Community College this Saturday was a great opportunity to share the work of our office to protect Washington’s LGBTQ+ community.
A Town Hall event is in progress. A man on the left, wearing a white shirt, stands at a podium with a microphone, addressing the audience. He is holding a small object with the rainbow flag colors. To the right, a woman in a grey outfit stands on a raised platform, looking towards the man. A diverse audience is seated at tables and chairs in the foreground and middle ground, with their backs mostly to the camera, listening to the speakers. A black curtain serves as a backdrop.
