Simultaneously unaffordable and depressing home values - Schrodinger’s missing middle

Excellent overview of the pro/anti sides on this - the map of increased development caught my eye. For those that argue the blanket approach isn't targeted or transit-oriented enough - a large majority of the impacted neighbourhoods are Red and Blue Line adjacent (and future Green Line North).

The Alberta teacher strike that has affected more than 700,000 students isn’t just another labour dispute.

It’s the latest front in a long campaign to undermine education — closely linked to the right-wing Project 2025 initiative to transform America.

This municipal election is important - the next four years will shape issues like housing, affordability, transit, public safety, and even our local democracy.

That's why I'm running as an independent candidate with a vision to move us forwards, not backwards, and it's why you must vote 1/ #yyc

They don’t believe it one bit. They know that sowing that concept out there will get them some outrage driven votes

It depends - if you have central air or heat ducts then you can get a pretty decent install just adding to the air return but yeah ideally it’s tied directly into various rooms at build time

Yes and despite that I will also say that the new guilds are not in absolute terms “affordable” still - but relative improvements are key- and the solution is not ending these infills but bringing more non market housing on alongside

And I don’t think that $650k price is real or even if it is it’s not representative of most lots being redeveloped. In most cases I’d argue the bungalow is tiny and costs closer to $1m and is being replaced by multiple cheaper units that have more family friendly square footage.

It’s sad that geography makes it easier to connect downtown Victoria to Washington state vs BC mainland by ferry.

Ugh partial tear in supraspinatus (part of rotator cuff) muscle. Why is middle age. Likely caused by a pretty routine / not a big deal snowboarding fall.

Given the crew doing the Sunnyside cycle track thinks it’s a waste of money it’s hard to rule anything out

Don’t forget the contingent that will ride but only on river paths after driving their bikes there and will say they’re “avid cyclists” but don’t support bike lanes

If it isn't safety certified - it's dangerous. And the price tag of eBikes etc. with certified batteries isn't nearly as high as it used to be.
X-ray scans reveal the hidden risks of cheap batteries
