Frankly, the winery experience in most European regions is an afterthought, at best. Mostly bad. South Africa has the best winery experiences of anywhere I’ve been.

I see it as seamless. The WA does the heavy lifting, as it is currently doing, with an engaged audience, while Michelin Wine Guide extrapolates the number of stars (bottles) for the less engaged. Michelin does nothing extra except rearranging the data.

It’s a failed concept. Most I’ve been to are supremely disorganized with second-rate products. That includes San Jose, Las Vegas, LA, Stockholm, London and Munich. Same level of mediocre everywhere.

Loved the discussion. It’s always been my belief the the best way to introduce hybrids to the world is through mass market wines. Gallo should be on this. Their audience is obviously less critical and flavors can be manipulated to suit them.

It goes with the BBQ phenomenon, everyone is a grill master, signature dry rubs, serially over salting steaks, endless best steakhouses in the world lists, etc. Steak is everywhere.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good steak but it’s all the youthful influencer class seems to be eating these days. Can we get some variety please. And when there is steak, of course, there is cabernet. Boring!!
