Sitting in this place reminded me how important it is to slow down, to listen, to be present. When we make space for spirit — in our surroundings and in ourselves — something shifts. Clarity comes. Strength returns.

@arndreaking.bsky.social & I are saddened by the passing of D’Angelo. His voice carried soul itself—raw, honest, transcendent. His music didn’t just shape a sound; it shaped a generation, giving rhythm to love, struggle, and truth. Our hearts are with his family & all who felt the power of his art.

Nonviolence takes courage. It is not the absence of fear, but the willingness to stand up for what is right despite fear.

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”

and all their wonderful children. Those moments were filled with laughter, stories, and a beautiful sense of family and connection.

Joan’s passing reminds me of how precious our time is, and how the bonds of friendship and family transcend distance and time.

Today, I pause to reflect on the passing of Joan Kennedy. Joan was more than just a remarkable woman — she was a beacon of kindness, strength, and grace.

This summer, we had the unforgettable privilege of spending time in Kenya deep in the Masai Mara with her son Patrick, his wife Amy,

We've seen the impact of the people with the Target protests. We saw change when 1.7M people canceled their Disney/Hulu accounts after the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live. History has shown us with the Montgomery Bus Boycotts and many others.

Organized nonviolence has power.

#OTD in 1963, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) organized a massive voter registration drive for hundreds of Black residents in Dallas County, one of the most repressive places in the Alabama Black Belt. This became known as Freedom Day in Selma.

You have to deliberately cultivate a mindset of love in the face of oppression. That requires intentionally choosing the higher path of love, righteousness, and justice.

Every one of us is important and precious. We cannot afford not to see the humanity in anyone, no matter how different they look, how different they worship, how different they live, even if we don't always agree with their choices.

There will never be just one single person that can "save" us. It's up to us to do the legwork to protect our democracy, advocate for our rights, and build a peaceful world where we all can thrive.

Gandhi's birthday is also International Day of Nonviolence.

Gandhi's teachings informed the philosophies of MLK Jr., and it is based on what he called satyagraha, soul force.

Love is the bedrock of nonviolence. It is based on the acknowledgement we are all interconnected.

"We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny."

This means that we are all connected, and what happens to me, happens to you. This is what grounds us in our humanity and reminds us that we can truly only move in love in order to move forward.

Two years ago, I warned about how oppression was being legislated in America. Today, we're witnessing that reality.
