HBOT is being used in Israel by Efrati to treat PTSD. Enhanced oxygen supply enables rapid and sustained firing of inhibitory interneurons by meeting their high metabolic demand, which explains why it works. Repeated HBOT cycles lead to cellular regeneration, including inhibitory cell populations.

Chinese scientists recently used enzymes to convert a donor kidney from Type A to universal type O and transplanted it into a brain-dead patient without hyperacute rejection. This may revolutionize transplant medicine and reduce waitlist times for many more organ transplant patients in the future.

Long-duration spaceflight (LDSF) may cause eye and neurological changes, called Spaceflight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS). A prior SANS diagnosis predicts future risk and severity in repeat ISS astronauts according to this new NASA study.

A total of 16 National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronauts (orange circles) have completed 2 long-duration spaceflights onboard the ISS. During ISS mission 1, astronauts were either diagnosed as SANS cases or non-SANS cases (indicated by dark and light blue circles, respectively). These SANS or non-SANS groups then completed ISS mission 2 and were, again, diagnosed as SANS or non-SANS cases.
