Voter enthusiasm matters, and maybe Ciattarelli supporters re more enthusiastic than Sherrill supporters (no great data on this). But: if Dems think voting for Sherrill is voting against Trump, they’ll crawl over broken glass to do it. And you only need enough enthusiasm to get people to the polls.

Everyone says they’ll stand up to Trump, but I’ve actually fought back against his hate & division. When Trump tried to ban people who don’t look like him from our country, Virginians told him loud & clear that Ghazala Hashmi is an American name & tomorrow they’ll do it again.

It has been said before, but it bears repeating: the elderly who’ve worked their entire lives to get $800 a month on Social Security aren’t bankrupting America. It’s tax-evading billionaires like Trump who are bleeding this country dry.

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”
It’s very telling that opening your publication to MAGA “thought” requires a massive downgrade in quality control.
