A deep dive from me dissecting how data centers might actually impact St. Louis and its tax base.

As #HispanicHeritageMonth ends, I’m reflecting on the contributions of the Hispanic & Latino communities that have strengthened St. Louis.

Let’s remember what’s at stake in our fight for a just future: equity and opportunity for all, including our Hispanic & Latino neighbors. 💜

So Ricky's health scare this was basically a $1300 tummy ache. Asshole cat.

@developstlouis.bsky.social write the ordinance. 71620. They didn’t bother to follow it the first chance they had. The Midas debacle with the condo/hotel. Until someone from the public sunshined the evidence they notified SLPS. They never cared. It’s about optics.

An interesting thing btw of personal property tax abatement is state law requires the bills to state how much the abatements cost the affected taxing districts. BoA should require that also for real estate abatements if it really cared about informed decision making and protecting SLPS, etc.

So McDonnell Douglas vs. Green is probably gonna be made irrelevant soon then too

Nuisance c-store at 2821 N. Vandeventer shut down today by Board of Adj. Problem property owner is defended by attorney who sits on 4 different city boards 😒

I think tax abatements for uses that have rapid depreciation is a fool’s errand.

Kinda? Despite the outlines of lanes being there people still somehow managed to turn it into a one lane both ways road because...st. louis

The way they sorta mislead you about his destruction of the mall....here's what we lost, (all three buildings) and we got the Peabody in their stead

The tone of this editorial praising the Schoemehl years is *chefs kiss*

Classic Post sassiness re: the admission he totally abandoned the northside

Of the clubs hosted at the Elks' HQ I honed in on Jimmy Caruth's Club Rhumboogie bc of a photo in Owsley's book that I tracked to Jazz at Lincoln Center in the Driggs collection. It shows a young Miles Davis performing with Eddie Randle, 1943

A couple more photos of that intersection of Pine and Cardinal from MHS' Sievers collection. First one is looking West on Pine, to the left Annie Malone's home to the right the Elks' courtyard. Second one, looking North across Pine. Clubhouse on left. Pappy's and Olive one block up.

A minor OBAA touch I’ve been thinking about is Lockjaw spitting on his comb to smooth and style his hair. I’ve only ever seen one other person do that and it was Bush admin Doeuty Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. Given the film’s time period and Sean Penn’s political awareness, gotta wonder.

People that performatively speed around residential streets in neighborhoods, with burnouts and revved engines.

They're not dumb kids they're bad people. Bad people putting other people's lives at risk

And the house opposite the clubhouse immediately to the left foreground, Lois Conley, founder of the Griot Museum, would live there for a short time
archcityhistory.bsky.social
Fun fact, the mansion visible opposite the clubhouse on the upper right corner, 3100 Pine, was Annie Malone's second residence & HQ for the Poro College, the old Weil mansion.

It would later serve as the nurses residence for the predecessor to Homer G. Hospital, hospital no. 2 in Mill Creek.

Scenes in 1940 that capture the national convention for the Elks outside the 3 story clubhouse pictured above, showing a party in the streets near the intersection of Cardinal and Pine Street in Mill Creek Valley

Building that became Pappy's Smokehouse, as it appeared in 1961 (It was built in the 50s, iirc) The multistory building to the left at the corner of Cardinal & Pine St was the Elks Lodge, also hosted a number of very swanky clubs in the 1940s like Club Rhumboogie

Reminds me of Ferguson where they fired expired teargas canisters off West Florissant into people's backyards
donmoyn.bsky.social
Yeah, that is a tear gas canister being fired toward the retreating couple holding the baby

There is no conceivable argument that these ships, even if we assume they were carrying narcotics, could not be dealt with in some other way. I think we can just drop the caveats and say: This is mass murder.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.
