I have a story in Aurealis, Australia's Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine. (Issue #182) "Land of the Long Black Cloud" is set in Wellington, NZ, 160 years from now. This Oklahoma Cherokee never imagined he'd be writing down-under SciFi. "God is Change." O. Butler aurealis.com.au/store/aureal...

In my story, societal collapse has occurred in Aotearoa NZ. Power dynamics have shifted to those people whose societal norms pre-collapse were community-based rather than capitalist-individualist. And there’s some mysterious tech involved. 🤙🏽

Questions from an Elder: As I get older, I drift more deeply into serious and stupid questions. Why was washing behind my ears so important to my mother and grandmother? I feel that key matriarchal information was withheld. The truth is out there. Enlighten me.

I didn't know it until the very end at the Author's credits section though I did think to myself when I got to his story, "Nah, I can't be THAT Wayne Brady. It's a common enough name - this ain't the King of Improv Wayne jumping head first into THE STAND."
Fun stuff.

Finished “The End Of The World As We Know It” and want to do two things immediately (see image). I’ll return to this anthology for many rereads. And Wayne Brady… can’t be that Wayne Brady? Laws yes. 🖤💙📚😱 #constantreader #shortstories #darkfiction @briankeene.bsky.social @cgolden.bsky.social

My mother was Tsalagi and my father was Irish American (hard drinking). Their marriage was rocky and ended in an ugly divorce. I grew up feeling of two worlds but an outlier to both. It took me many years to realise that I was the dream of my ancestors and that they were always beside me.

In these lousy no-good times, you gotta hold on to the little things that bring you joy. I love crisps and they love me back. 🥔 #heartfelt #potatolove

#PoemOfTheDay Poe’s ‘Annabelle Lee’. The first poem I ever read as a wee lad.
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea—
In her tomb by the sounding sea 🖤💙📚 www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44885/...
Annabel Lee
It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be lo...

In the elder times you'd carry your dog-eared, beat to shit, horror/scifi novels around in your back pocket. Portable reading from back in the daze.

…described by music critic Malcolm Jack as "slow, repetitive, three-chord drone-rock jams, sung in a voice so drawling and ragged that Parks sounds like she’s been gargling bong water" Shit, that sounds like a critic’s slam but I’m say, “Praise Be. Let the girl get her groove on.”

Weed wacking to Tess Parks under a weary Wellington sky. Is their a clan for Elder NDNs still hippie-ing past 60? Or is it just all of us? #vibes #thegroove #lowfi #pyschedelic 🪶🙌🏾🧠🫀👁️https://youtu.be/k_-hFR46b0w?si=xA8OYtbRwJ5V-N7O

Have you read Carmen Maria Machado’s excellent short story ‘“The Lost Performance of the High Priestess of the Temple of Horror”? It dives right into Hitch’s sadism creep factor though it centers around ‘Psycho’. I did a pilgrimage to Bodega Bay once. Gulls everywhere, miserable weather, perfect. 🖤

Jane Goodall was a one-of-a-kind treasure to the world!

I was lucky enough to be able to thank her personally when our paths crossed not long ago.

Thanks again, Ms. Goodall. You will be missed. ♥️

When we lived in Big Island Hawaii, my Kiwi partner settled for Vegemite, but once we moved to her homeland, it was Marmite all day all night. 🖤 #beingkiwi #aotearoa 🇳🇿 #breakfast

Never been much of a sports follower. Didn't get it. Then I married a Kiwi. Then I moved to Aotearoa. Then my wife indoctrinated me: All Blacks. Black Ferns. Bleed black. The Ferns earned a bronze at the recent World Cup, but damn, the power, heart, and grace of these warrior women. 🖤🖤🖤

@bevvincent.bsky.social Lifelong constant reader. My family can't buy me King books because they never know what I've read and what I haven't. Santa brought me your book last Christmas. Thanks for the hard work of putting it together. I enjoy leaving it on the coffee table for visitors to peruse. 🖤
