What's this? A second episode of Soundwaves: A Transformers Publication History, tackling the first three Marvel UK issues with my first-time-reader girlfriend?

Is "Man of Iron" about the fear of reverse colonization?

In which I add missing summaries of and trivia for Beast Wars manga chapters to the @tfwiki.net as I read through the series for the first time.

They said it could never be done! They said no one would ever care! (They were right! Maybe.)
I went and done it. Now you, too, can follow along at home!

What is the mysterious connection of Gokoku-ji Station to the Beast Wars publishing mythos? Who is Herohero-kun? What is a "creature mode"? I've logged it all here.

An (English) internet first here, folks(!).

Oof. Conversation with the girlfriend on US Issues 5 through 9 for the TF comic podcast ran over two hours. We'll have to pare it way down or split the episode.

We both had a lot to say about Ratchet, the general direction of the series, Circuit Breaker's upcoming costume, and other things.
@tfwiki.net: I note that you only seem to have summaries for two of these chapters. Do you need them for the rest? Seriously offering. I work as a writer/J->E translator.
Lio Convoy goes Super Saiyan after seeing Tasmania Kid get obliterated (hope he has Waspinator durability), and the chapter surprisingly ends mid-fight on a cliffhanger!

Once again, shocked by this feeling like an "actual" manga series. I always thought this era was more in line w/ the G1 outings.
This one is all about prompting play w/ intermediary modes with the toys, with LC biting Galvatron and then transforming still chomping, and Galv utilizing dragon parts in bot mode. Narration helpfully explains that Galv's half-transformations are called "Creature Mode," and you can try it at home!
Underneath the ruined Tokyo is this, and...What is this—a plot?! I genuinely want to know what's going on?!
Never mind! The city was an Earth city (populated with bots in LC's dream)—quickly revealed to be the remains of Tokyo, to which he has been called by mysterious forces.

Is it too early to place this branch of TF fiction in continuity with Regeneration One? (Jk; or am I?)
Chapter 2 begins on this surprisingly jarring Convoy nightmare sequence of Galvatron attacking a Cybertronian city and morphing into Lio Convoy.

What does it mean???
And another classic bait-and-switch buildup of Bighorn's giant missile shot plinking comically off a tank.

It's nice to see a TF manga with the page space to allow for panelling jokes like this, which the G1 series were never really able to do.
There are some genuinely amusing gags here, like Dirge telling Thrust to only speak to him if he sees something on radar, then constantly refusing to listen as he doesn't want his concentration broken, so save it for big news, 'kay?
Transquito?!

(Confusing, "Big Moth," apparently, but still the Transquito toy.)
Again, though, I think the first chapter here is much stronger than the first episode of the anime, which I rewatched out of curiosity. It takes its sweet time establishing what this takes pages to do, and the manga is generally just more fun.
Diver's ribbiting attracts the attention of female frogs. Nature will never permit their love.

No one talks normally—everyone has some sort of goofy dialect or speech quirk.

Big shades of Car Robots/RiD, which is the third series in this era's anime trilogy, though IMO the most successful.
Shadowed Maximal HQ types establish all of the above, and then it's time to meet our cast. Typical Japanese TF military setup here (unironic "You call yourselves warriors?!"; see commentary on recent TF comics podcast (#2) for that), but—as characterizes the whole JP Beast era—everyone is a goof.
Okay, here we go. I'm not a masochist, so I haven't watched more than the first episode of Beast Wars II, but this has a stronger first outing. Maximals all over the galaxy are being beaten back by Predacons, with the teams on Gaia representing a vital front line due to its Angolmois Energy.
@nytimes.com I understand not all of Trump's social media usage warrants it, but can this insane post please be covered? It seems important that this be shared with the mainstream.

Oh, this is like a real manga with full 40-page monthly chapters. Not the very short ones of the G1 series.
