This fake story is just a glimpse of what's coming in October: REAL data horror stories. Are you ready?

#datahorrorstories
Halfway through your project, you can’t find the study data, five different files all claim to be final_version.xlsx, nobody remembers what the variable names mean, and the notes explaining them are scattered across three email threads. Now the funder asks for your data management strategy. Oops 👇

I entirely share the sentiment of Felix Schönbrodt @lmu-osc.bsky.social that the issue of #OpenAccess seemed to be the least interesting part of #OpenScience. It feels more like an administrative, institution-policy issue. But, this story shows again that Open Access means more: It's vital!

And this is the proposed way forward. As simple as it is, as much impact it can have on scientific outcomes. But how to implement this as a new scientific standard?

*Slide by Richard McElreath (share.eva.mpg.de/index.php/s/...); his book "Statistical rethinking" (on my reading list): xcelab.net/rm/
"Excel is software to make pretty tables, it's no software to make data analyses." Starting the day with an interesting, but super frightening public lecture of the @lmu-osc.bsky.social #OpenScience Summer School on "Science as amateur software development" by Richard McElreath.

… but it was cool to hear that the study on open science policies of Ag Econ journals by @robertfinger.bsky.social and colleagues triggered discussions among the respective editorial boards. That’s how a cultural change is brought about.
Participants in the room being likely not representative for the entire research community…
And now up for the #EAAE2025 Congress in Bonn. Following the session of former colleague @juliahoehler.bsky.social on #OpenScience in AgEcon. So cool to see how Open Science is now evolving in the field.

There is the saying “Home is where your WiFi is”. Thanks to the European success story of eduroam, the entire world becomes your home when you’re studying or working at a university. Thanks for the cool insights @c4thrin.bsky.social at #CoRDI2025 #CoRDI
This is not only the very first post from our Service Centers, it also happens to be my very first step into the @bsky.app universe. So consider this a double debut: new voices joining the wider Open Science conversation. And me figuring out which button does what...
