Cons of Shards
-Discard is not a massive downside, being able to resculpt your hand as a cost is hugely strong (see Collective Brutality)
-Discourages sac and trigger interaction, as discard is pretty much always better

Pros of Shards
+Flexibility of discard or sac makes it relevant removal throughout the game
+Still allows for aforementioned interaction
+More intuitive to players new to the format, reduced chance of hard lock on game actions

Cons of Splinters
-The requirement for both a target and sac makes it often too narrow, and usually you put it straight to the end of your program to avoid bricking your hand
-Counterintuitive/ not friendly to new players, who might not know the risk of fully bricking that it has in sequence

Pros of Splinters:
+Emphasises importance of hand sequencing by often being a hard lock on taking actions if there is no target or creature to sacrifice to pay its cost
+Allows for the cool interaction where you can trigger the Miner you sac to pay its cost to recur it
