Meanwhile, the primary source for operations (sales tax) is a lot more volatile and linked to the economy. It’s shrinking now and hurting the city.

Not to say all this is the *right* choice, but that explains some of the contrast… which def can feel weird.

It goes back to taxes. Denver voters have approved a slice of property taxes to only be used for debt service on (mostly) one-time costs. Old debt is getting paid down so city leaders are tempted to put new debt on. Property tax is fairly reliable/steady so I guess they feel confident in it.

This woman literally ran through the woods to reach her son, who was thankfully safe, in the Evergreen shooting.

Northern Colorado's public radio station, KUNC, will lay off 8 employees, representing more than 20% of its staff, as it responds to funding cuts. Please give to KUNC, they do vital work. www.kunc.org/station-news...

As part of this restructuring, CRNC has reduced its workforce by eight positions, affecting every department. This represents 8 out of 38 employees - more than 20% of the organization’s staff.

NEW: Colorado Gov. Polis executive order on COVID vaccines. It effectively grants a prescription to whoever wants the vaccine, allowing them to get vaccinated without a doctor visit.

State-regulated health plans would be required to cover the cost. Some employer health plans may not have to.
