Very sad news from @pembroke1347.bsky.social. I lived in a room above Mr K in my first year, and he complained that we *weren't* making too much noise.

Enjoying the way n>1 people have said "I bet you can explain why this isn't really the 200th anniversary"

#Skegness feels like if Wetherspoon's ran an entire town. There's nothing wrong with it, it's popular, it's making good use of Victorian buildings and it's very affordable. But I've spent all weekend on my phone wondering if there is something a bit better nearby...

Despite widespread claims, there are not many mediaeval pubs still serving. The ones that survive are all inns. The best preserved is the New Inn at Gloucester. We know from tree-ring dating that construction began in 1432 and it was first mentioned in the records in 1455 🧵
Calling @jpwarchaeology.bsky.social - is this pub built from 100% totally authentic genuinely real ship timbers???

(Also, Spalding museum has a display about spiral stairs...)

Minerals is the least popular university course (though I suspect issues with how courses are classified would make this a very complicated question to look at seriously) thetab.com/2025/09/05/t...
The least popular uni courses, that barely anyone in the UK bothers to study now

Goodnight from The Sisters fish and chip shop, where Jo Jenks is trying to peer into tomorrow through the somewhat neglected art of divination by scraps. Goodnight from Chris Hesker, reflecting that Wakes Cross isn’t the best station to miss the last train from. Goodnight from Hookland.
I do worry that one day a historic house is going to be overrun by witches because archaeologists emptied one of these bottles
Witch bottle and contents.
It makes me wonder: have any stagecoaches survived? Looking it up is hard, because of the bus company.
To the wonderful #Maidstone carriage #museum, which I only recently heard about. It deserves to be much better known.

Telepathic lesbians! Scandalous Bohemians (the arty sort, not Czechs)! Sub-Wodehouse idle rich Englishmen! Nouveau riche Americans! To be honest #ThePrincessDaphne is hard work. The "longwinded dialogue" to "actual story" ratio is very Victorian. It feels like three separate books got tangled up.

Ooh. This looks exciting!
