Hey @nytimes.com, who paid you to write such a car crash of an article, full of misinformation about factory farming?
You already changed the headline in light of the negative response. Maybe it’s time to fact check the article by someone who doesn’t have an agenda?

Opinion | Sorry, but This Is the Future of Food (Gift Article)
Every farm, even the scenic ones with red barns and rolling hills, is a kind of environmental crime scene, an echo of whatever wilderness it once replaced.

Thank you for everything you do for animals! 💚
An animal can kill to live, but unlike humans, an animal never lives to kill.

🐾 The British Veterinary Association officially dropped their old stance against plant-based diets for dogs 🌱🐶
After checking out the latest research, BVA now says it's safe to feed your furry friend a plant-based diet, as long as it meets all their nutritional needs 🥕

By now, I thought I've seen it all. But today I found an animal sanctuary that actually serves meat and other animal products at their café. I mean, how bizarre and hypocritical can it get?

A recent UK government report indicates that total meat production in the UK fell by 4.1% in 2023, marking the first decline in over a decade.

Bird flu, which has killed hundreds of millions of birds, has now infected cattle and even one human. The more mammalian species get infected, the greater the risk of it evolving into a strain dangerous to humans. Experts warn that this bird flu pandemic could be 100 times worse than COVID.

Opinion | This May Be Our Last Chance to Halt Bird Flu in Humans and We Are Blowing It
“There’s a fine line between one person and 10 people with H5N1.”

So, farmers feed cattle and other farm animals something called "poultry litter" - a mixture of poultry excrement, spilled feed, feathers, and other waste scraped from the floors of industrial chicken and turkey production facilities - and then we are surprised by outbreaks like H5N1?
Ground-up chicken waste fed to cattle may be behind bird flu outbreak in US cows
Experts warn that lax regulations could also see the virus spread to US pig farms, with serious consequences for human health
www.telegraph.co.uk
In 2023, the USDA paid poultry producers more than half a billion dollars for animals they were forced to kill after H5N1 was detected on their farms.
Not only are we wasting taxpayer money on profitable companies for a problem they created, but we’re not giving them any incentive to make changes.
Is Giving Farmers Millions to Kill Millions of Chickens the Way to Curb Bird Flu?
Big poultry farms have received millions of dollars for their losses. Animal welfare groups contend that aid reinforces inhumane cullings of birds exposed to the virus.

A conservative estimate is that we kill 2.5 billion animals for food every single day, which means if we were killed at the same rate we kill animals, humanity would be wiped out within four days.
For animals, this planet is hell. #GoVegan and end the suffering.
🌎 A global shift to a plant-based diet would enable us to provide food for every individual (!) on Earth and release 76% (!) of the current agricultural land. 🥦🌽

When we talk about killing trillions of animals, we're really talking about the experience of trillions of individuals, each of whom is forced to endure the absolute horror, pain and suffering that we inflict on them.

Every pound of flesh humans consume is hammering another nail into the polar bears' coffin, leaving them adrift on ever-thinning ice.

Smash a car window to rescue a suffering dog on a hot day and the police will give you a pat on the back; rescue a piglet suffering on a factory farm and they'll arrest you.

Future generations will look back at people who still ate meat and think, “Why didn’t you listen? Why didn’t you care?”
Despite the belief that animals lack understanding of death & time, evidence suggests otherwise, with signs of mourning and fear in slaughterhouses. This raises a troubling question: By subjecting animals to perpetual suffering without their understanding, are we not creating a living hell for them?
🐷🌱 Animals are sentient beings with the ability to feel pain and emotion—just like you and me.
By adopting a vegan diet, you have the power to reduce the exploitation and suffering of animals in the meat, dairy, and egg industries.
Every meal you eat without animal products is a victory for animals.
Every living being deserves compassion, including those in our food system. Let's remember that farmed animals are individuals with feelings and deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. By going vegan, we can show compassion and work towards a more ethical and sustainable future. 💚🌱
Remember, every time you order a burger, a steak, a chicken sandwich, someone had to die.

The UN’s Food & Agriculture Org. called for countries like the US to reduce meat consumption to combat global warming. Meanwhile the US Farm Bill spends billions to make high-emissions meat cheap for consumers & profitable for factory farms.
It’s a systemic problem, funded by the federal government.
The United Nations wants the US to eat less meat — try telling that to Congress
For the U.S. to live up to its climate commitments, it must stop subsidizing factory farming.
