I mean he’s every person you know if you work in a professional job and are under 30 who posts lots of pastel infographics about Palestine on their insta story. That’s not necessarily a workable program for government but as Alex Turner said, over there there’s friend of mine

I am very much not a libertarian and yet I think primary legislation for this is more than a little much, are we going to be passing the Tucked In Shirts And Running In Corridors (Breaktime Detention) Act next?
amrk.bsky.social
And yet their new leader’s signature initiative as education minister is primary legislation banning phone in schools lmao

The ALP are republican but Albo pretty much announced that’s in abeyance because of the Voice debacle

Not to mention Catalonia

Tbf if my country had a total civil war in living memory and barely 50 years of democracy under its belt I’d be very hesitant about reopening the constitution

That’s really funny, Spain’s 5G signal being bizarrely good literally everywhere including hundreds of km from the nearest town and the UK and Germany’s being shite is a fairly well known thing

The last time England lost a qualifying match was 2019. The last time they *conceded a goal* in one was 2023.

Ok well I’ve never voted Green, Nathan’s a labour activist and this isn’t relevant to this conversation

Really is not discussed enough how England have, for a long time now, been an absolute machine in qualifying. This is not nothing! Very big teams have scares in qualifying! Italy have missed the last two world cups! We don’t even notice qualifying is happening because England never break a sweat!

I'm a fair-weather fan of the England national side but the transformation from 2002-era "tabloid-appointed World Cup Winners who hate one another oh fuck we've gone out in the last 16" to "some nice role-models who make you feel disappointed for losing in the semis" isn't a terrible trajectory.

I mean I don’t get your point, the Greens are very internally democratic (this is not necessarily good! It means they end up with some absolutely batshit policies!) they’re just small. You can be internally democratic with 3 people!

I mean if that’s everyone who voted and 10 million people could join if they wanted, sure, Iceland isn’t less democratic than the US because they have 1/1000th of the voters
amrk.bsky.social
It’s just Pedro being exceptionally lefty in US-salient ways for a western leader and them being the joint most pro-Pal western country along with Ireland with Americans are emotionally attached to and can’t be mad at, no?

Ayoub Khan isn’t either he was a Lib Dem 18 months ago! YP’s ideological red lines are not economic

“Railways are still nationalised of course but we did privatise the ambulances (?!)”

Sweden is a hilarious example of devolving the exact opposite things to the UK. “Yes every county runs its own health service. No there’s only one police force for the whole country, why do you ask?”

This would arguably work better here than there, where the formula for “tax raising capacity” of each province is afaict basically like “well Alberta could simply heavily tax the oil companies” so as long as Alberta doesn’t do that absolutely rinses them to pay Quebec
amrk.bsky.social
Canadian style equalisation payments I guess. Or how Canada does VAT (the feds collect the money but have to hand it all over to provinces with no restrictions on what they can do with it , but an adjustment formula to distribute money between them)

This does bring me back to being open to rent control in the short term. Yes I know I know the macroeconomic effects but if it’s time bound to until we get those 1.5m house built…

The Welsh nationalist fervour of 1964, the year Plaid won zero seats and less than 70,000 total votes

Ngl of all the things that might get descoped the trees feel like the easy bit lol

Has Ben-Gvir said anything at all? Did anyone ever work out what was happening in that cabinet meeting to approve it that ran way over?
amrk.bsky.social
I’ve said this before but every other tech company releases *every year* something much like last year and every 3-7 years people upgrade and it feels like an upgrade because skipping 5 gens *is* an upgrade. This is surely the way forward

Tbf the original meaning of “wet” was “thought Thatcherism was bad” and I don’t think there’s been many/any Tory MPs like that in the 21st century
