So far 15% of sales has gone to mootual aid, being redistributed directly to individuals & families within the Pagan community.

I'm hoping to increase that number to 20% by the time registration closes.

A big thing missed in discussions of ancestor work is that AW isn’t about us in the same way community isn’t about us. This isn’t surprising, tho, because the witchcraft community is predominantly yt Americans & yt American culture doesn’t teach how to process one’s baggage. 🧵

Despite how crucial this work is, it’s far simpler to do than it sounds.

We are all capable of doing the work to heal ancestral trauma affecting our families and our community.

It just takes a little bit of knowledge & the willingness to act for our own good and the good of others.

But this means that when we do the work to heal ancestral trauma and take accountability for the actions of our families, we are doing spiritual work to HEAL OUR COMMUNITY.

That also ripples!

Healing this pain and doing that healing affects everyone, it heals things within you, too.

The consequence affect everyone bound to you by love. And that means that just as the everyday consequences of those actions (systemic, cultural) affect the greater community, those spiritual consequences affect the community.

It all ripples.

Ancestral trauma hurts us all.

I hear you: you cut ties with your family. You’ve no connection. Why is it your problem to clean up their mess?

Because the consequences of their actions affect you spiritually.

If you don’t clean that up, it will continue to affect you—and your descendants, which isn’t just bio family.

It absolutely is your responsibility to take accountability for the actions of your family when those actions are part of systems that continue to privilege you & continue to target marginalized people, esp BIPOC folks. You have responsibility for your family AND to your community.

It’s that second stance that is a problem, however, as it isn’t just an excuse to not interact with one’s ancestors. It’s an excuse to AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY.

It’s an excuse that says “what my ancestors did was awful, but it’s not my responsibility to clean up.”

It’s not surprising then that so much of the ancestor work discourse falls into “I’m compelled to do ancestor work but don’t know how [due to ancestral/family bullshit]” or, unfortunately and far too commonly, “I’m white & I can’t/shouldn’t do ancestor work because my ancestors were bad people.”

A bond of connection persists. Our ancestors exist, conscious and aware, and they are able to take actions that affect the quality of our lives. They can aid us in our struggles, they can celebrate our success, they can guide us through challenges, they can support us in our pain.
