It’s a tough time for STEM education research right now, but we are still excited to share our new PNAS paper, “Divergence in children’s gender stereotypes and motivation across STEM fields”! We have big surveys (2,765 students in Grades 1-12), 2 pre-registered studies, and open data. (1/13)

She felt that message had fallen flat last time, because students often struggle with feeling like impostors. So we got to talk about how growth mindsets can really protect you from those feelings, because you stay focused on your potential for growth rather than your current lack of skill. (6/N)

In a really fascinating part of the conversation, I asked her to share her experiences of the impostor phenomenon, and she reflected on the conversation she had with my class last semester. She had said then that she never really felt like an imposter, just a beginner. (5/N)

She talked about her team's work on training teachers to explicitly share growth mindset messages on the first day of class, like, "I love questions! Questions make me a better teacher," "I believe every student in this class can succeed and I will do my best to make that happen," (2/N)

Just filled out a web survey with a bunch of Likert-type items. The response categories were in the same order on each item, but not the order you'd expect:

fairly important
important
unimportant
very important

Pretty sure "alphabetize response categories" is not best practice in survey design.
