It also didn't shy away from segregation in the army or the internment of Japanese Americans. Perhaps it could have said more, but it's appreciated in a time where the government wants to airbrush away any blemishes in our history.
Went to the WW2 Museum in New Orleans on Sunday. Incredible space, and the D-Day exhibit really shows the level of sacrifice (and the astounding amount of grit, boldness and luck) that went into taking down the Nazis.
Haha I only know because my editor and a former coworker are Hendersonville grads!
Also Swift lived in Hendersonville. Someone who lived in Nashville longer than me could probably make a joke about the difference between that place and Franklin.
I didn't *enjoy* reading Baudrillard in college but with the rise of AI slop and unending wave of misinformation I'm very glad to have even a passing understanding of concepts like simulacra and hyperreality.

The people who are sincerely in favor of freedom of expression will speak out now for the reporters.
🚨THIS IS A BIG DEAL. Chicago journalists are suing the Trump administration for using excessive force against reporters & protestors in violation of the 1A.
The press here is doing astounding work documenting how ICE is out of control. The violence they face in doing so is obscene.
The protests at the Broadview ICE facility and the federal government’s violent
attempts to silence the protesters became a story of great interest to the local Chicago media and
was also covered in the national press. Much of the coverage described the federal officers’
abusive tactics. Defendants sought and are seeking to quash this coverage by attacking and
intimidating members of the Press on the ground there.
85. Federal immigration officers at the Broadview ICE facility have repeatedly and
intentionally singled out persons whom they know to be members of the Press for violence,
assault, and intimidation. These assaults are not incidental or unintentional. They are undertaken
by design to intimidate journalists on scene and to frustrate and suppress coverage of the federal
officers’ actions toward protesters and immigration detainees

Federal forces inexplicably tried to move all protestors out a city block using chemical irritants.

NEW — An estimated 40 people were taken by federal agents in an overnight raid in South Shore, a predominantly-Black neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

A couple who live nearby said they were shocked to see the enormous militarized raid in their community.
