I'm going to be making noise about Kipnuk & other devastated villages for a few days, folks. The YK-Delta is a vital part of Alaska & what this storm did to those residents is hell. The least we can do is save the Kipnuk dogs & support the Bethel Friends of Canines! www.bethelfriendsofcanines.com
Bethel Friends of Canines
Bethel Friends of Canines is a non-profit dog rescue based in the rural Alaskan village of Bethel. Not only do we rescue dogs in Bethel, but we also rescue dogs all over the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta...

WESTERN ALASKA FLOODS UPDATE:

Authorities have determined that none of the housing in either Kipnuk or Kwigillingok is safe to occupy

Residents were being evacuated to Bethel. But now… residents of both villages will be evacuated to Anchorage - almost 500 miles away

Search and rescue for 2 people missing in Kwigillingok *is ongoing* says the Association of Village Council Presidents.

"No one is giving up."

State of Alaska and US Coast Guard officials had said yesterday their search was done - but locally it continues.

when covid hit alaska, shipwreck beads sent free beads/supplies to hooper bay

i’ll reach out and see if they’d be interested into doing it again

if you guys have any contacts at beading stores, please consider reaching out and asking if they’d be interested in sending a donation to western alaska

oh that breaks my heart 😢💔

Another "critical" loss for many is beading and craft supplies! I shudder to think how many cookie tins full of projects floated away or got waterlogged.
Not to mention sewing machines, fabrics, skins and notions lost.

From AKPM: Hundreds are still sheltering - now Day 4 - since Typhoon Halong - in ill-equipped local schools.

Emergency supplies are being shipped in, as evacuations are taking place, but the coordination takes time.

“We know that folks are miserable.”

The state is evacuating the vulnerable and trying to find safe shelter for all. “We're moving as fast as we can,” the incident commander said. “We know that folks are miserable.”

they don’t care about us

they don’t care if we die, if our children or elders die, or if our homelands are destroyed and become uninhabitable

but WE CARE. we care if you live and that your homes are safe

we show up for you
