I am reminded of a YouTuber who noted that critics looking at protestantism from the outside (i.e. Catholics) have a tendency to mistakenly assume all Protestants are Southern Baptist.

Agreed. If by "evangelical" in a broad and simple sense (like, "anyone whose theology emphasizes a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a conversion experience") then of course it's impossible to make generalizations.

If, on the other hand, you mean white, straight, Independent Baptist...
