The only time I saw stand up Asteroids and Space Invaders were in amusement arcades but I'm sure there was table top Asteroids.

Apparently it was a console made by Binatone which would have had the 'bats'.

I definitely played it but the ultimate for me growing up was table top Space Invaders

I could play it because children were allowed in the Conservative Club.
