Ichabod's Frock

Now you can be the terror that goes bump in the night with this frock designed to frighten. We hope you enjoy our latest spooky #DnD magic item for this most spooky of months.

If you have it to spare, support us on Patreon to help us keep creating.
Ichabod’s Frock
+2 Studded Leather, Very Rare (requires attunement)

This thick, cuffed leather jacket is reinforced with an indistinguishable hardened hide on the interior making it surprisingly resistant to wear and tear. Where one would normally expect a hood, instead a jack-o’-lantern sits attached to the coat and burns in a sickly shade of ominous green. A curled and baleful smile creeps across the face of it and malicious intent gleams in its flame-licked eyes. A truly terrifying visage for all that would look upon it.

While you are attuned to this armor, once per hour, you can use a bonus action to remove the jack-o’-lantern from the coat. When you do so, it casts illusory magic making it appear that you don’t have a head underneath. Creatures within 30 feet that can see you must attempt a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. They can repeat the throw at the end of their turn, ending the effect on a success.

While you have the jack-o’-lantern removed from the coat, you canuse an action to throw it at a space of your choosing within 60 feet of you. When it hits, the jack-o’-lantern explodes in sickly green flames. Creatures within a 15 foot radius sphere of where the jack-o’-lantern hit must attempt a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw. Creatures take 10d6 necrotic damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one. The jack-o’-lantern is destroyed in this process. The coat becomes a normal +2 Studded Leather jacket until the next dawn when the jack-o’-lantern regenerates.

I'll be real, I just wish I had this thing in real life, which is why we made it. Would save me so many trips to the store 😅

Anyways, now you can have that convenience in your #DnD games!
Tentackle Box
Wondrous Item, Uncommon

Fashioned from a deep red mahogany wood and emblazoned with decorative carvings of octopus-like tentacles wrapping around it, this wooden case is obviously of a superior make from one look at the exterior of it. With a convenient carrying handle on top, this compact case features a metal clasp on the front that secures the hinged lid as well as a handle for a drawer that can be pulled forward.

Opening the lid and drawer reveals eight frosted glass compartments that have vague silhouettes of items within them. The compartments themselves cannot be opened and if one is damaged or pried open, that compartment contains nothing. In the middle of the top section, a tempting coin slot sits as well as a knob that seems to be meant to be turned.

You can take one minute to think of a common piece of non-magical adventuring gear that typically costs 100 gp or less and insert an amount of coins equal to its typical cost. The GM determines if the box can have the piece of gear requested. If the piece of gear isn’t available, your coins are refunded in a sudden shower from the slot. If the piece of gear is available, one of the decorative tentacles animates and opens a compartment revealing a miniature version of that gear. When pulled from the compartment, it becomes a full-sized, functional version. You can retrieve up to 8 items from the box per day, resetting its stock at dawn.

Pellar’s Purse
Wondrous item, uncommon

This expertly crafted component pouch is purpose made for impatient spell casters that have little time to sit down and do the laborious work of transcription. With a large pouch for storing a spell book, and an enchanted scroll case below, this satchel is certain to ease a wizard’s burdens.

You can use an action to place a spell scroll of any level into the scroll case and your spellbook into the main compartment. Provided you have the correct inks and other materials on you, the scroll case will begin copying the spell scroll into your spellbook. The process takes the normal amount of time based on the spell’s level and utilizes the same amount of materials, but does not require your constant attention. If the process is interrupted by removing the spell book, it begins where it left off when the book is replaced. Additionally, you gain advantage on the Arcana skill check to successfully copy the scroll.

You can also place non-magical paper into the scroll case and blank paper into the main compartment to produce a perfect copy of the papers in the scroll case at a rate of 1 page per minute. This process doesn’t require ink.

Some could easily mistake this colorful poncho as a novelty piece, but putting it on reveals it to be far more interesting than just a bit of costume.

While wearing this poncho, you can use a bonus action to leap up to 30 feet in any direction. If you land on a wall that isn’t slippery, you can stick to it with your feet leaving your hands free. If you are stuck to a wall when your turn begins, you can leap from it using another bonus action or choose to stay stuck in place. You can only stick to walls, not walk across them.

Additionally, if you leap onto a body of water while wearing this poncho, a lilypad will magically appear where you land. The lilypad lasts for 1 hour, or until you leave it. The lilypad can support up to 800 pounds while staying afloat.

Who's excited for spooky season? 🎃✋

Who's also struggling with SAD and and feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of small tasks to juggle every day? ✋✋

If you're interested in a tiny game that encourages mutual accountability through hexing your friends, keep a sharp eye out here next week... 👀
A small ad for a small TTRPG. The name of the game, AVERT!, is displayed in large text next to a logo of a stylized eye inside two circles. Below, explanatory text reads: "a bookmark game about mutual accountability and hexing your friends".

Damage, healing, all in one vampire wrapped package. I think it's just the kind of thing everyone should have in their kit for your spooky adventures this month.

Sanguisuge
Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)

The path to righteousness has many branches. Some lead to great power at the expense of what you hold dear. This item has a number of dark black and red beads that seem to be made of inky stone. The symbol that hangs from it is unfamiliar and gripping it causes thoughts of violence to race through your mind. This item can be used as a spellcasting focus.

While attuned to Sanguisuge, you can alter any spell you cast to change its damage type to necrotic. This also alters the appearance of your spells in various ways to make them look unnatural and unsettling. A fireball may explode in green and black flame for example.

Sacrifice. When you cast a spell that deals necrotic damage to a creature, you can choose to take the same amount of necrotic damage which cannot be mitigated in any way. When you do so, choose another creature within 30 feet that you can see. That creature regains hit points equal to twice the damage you took. You can use this feature a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus.

Follow us if you dig fresh, new magic items every week!
TromBone
Musical Instrument, Rare

The macabre form of this functioning trombone is composed entirely of malformed bones that are fused together in disturbing and offputting ways. The bell is composed of a long since decomposed skull that seems to always be screaming. Despite its ghastly appearance, this piece is a fully functional musical instrument able to be played by anyone with proficiency.

Twice per day, you can use an action to play a short tune on this instrument causing two illusory skeletal figures carrying similar instruments to emerge from the ground occupying your same space. The skeletons begin to dance around you and play an oddly upbeat melody for 1 minute. The skeletons move with you when you move and cannot be targeted by spells or attacks.

While at least one skeleton is present and dancing around you, you gain a new reaction. When you are targeted by a weapon attack, but before you know the results of the roll, you can use your reaction to cause one of the skeletal beings to jump in front of the attack. The attack hits them instead of you causing the skeleton to crumble into a pile of dust before disappearing. These abilities reset daily at dawn.

Wondrous Item, Rare

A winding metal chain supports a pendant, round in shape and covered in ancient runes in a language that has long-since been lost to time. The idle of this pendant is a blown glass tube that has no end or beginning. Within it, sparkling grains of sand sit suspended. A single metal rod runs through the center allowing the piece to be spun like an hourglass, though no sand moves when it’s inverted.

This magical amulet has 8 charges for use with the abilities below. When you spend a charge, some of the sand moves to the other side of the hourglass showing the remaining charges. It regains 1d6+2 charges at dawn.

Hastened Strike (1 charge). You can expend a charge when you make a weapon or spell attack to cause the weapon or spell to move much faster than expected. This attack gains a +1 bonus to its attack roll.

A Moment Suspended (5 charges). You can use your reaction when targeted by a weapon or spell attack, but before the attack roll is made, to temporarily pause the world around you. Time stops for everyone besides you. You can then move up to 15 feet without provoking attacks of opportunity. Time resumes at the end of your movement. If you end your movement in a different space than where you started, the attack that triggered this reaction misses.
