Made a thing today: 2025 MLS Team Performance Percentiles

Meant to emulate FBRef's Player Scouting Report, just at the team level!

Check out the link to see the reports for all 30 teams. Desktop is best, but it holds up ok on mobile too!

pretty sure this is the worst we've seen opposing strikers perform against everybody in this thread. elite at defending that box
I think i actually like LAFC to take the game to Austin successfully
Austin lag behind LAFC in every performance & style metric here, sure, though what catches my eye more is the consistent trend of the xGA getting worse across their entire season.

Still MUCH better than prior season, but regressed hard from those early performances
both sides of the ball have been trending the wrong direction for austin for quite a while
Austin: probably going to the wingbacks against LAFC to park the bus. has not been working out very well in practice! Let's see how much Stuver can still paper over
Crew: the structure shouldn't be new to these players but the performances have been the worst in 3 years, among the worst in the league in most of these. high line not being managed well & outer defense particularly struggling
LAFC: Their season by xG is right up there next to their 2022 Shield season. They're somewhat-to-very outlying in their efficiency metrics in regards to typical trend vs field tilt
I'm starting to pick up on the typical opponent position performance plots by team style & this is pretty expected of charlotte
I'm expecting CFC to be extremely first goal-reliant, if NYCFC get a lead & concede the ball I find it hard to see CFC break them down
Mostly positive signs from the matchup preview, where there will be a pretty big style clash
Charlotte: still relying VERY heavily on Kahlina
Loons with most interesting positional opponent performance plot I've seen so far - difference in the two extremes really telling. They let DMs rack up numbers spreading the ball, but crush AMs once the ball is getting into their final 3rd to attempt creating things
think it's fair to say MNUFC is going to accept a negative xGD in this first series & just look to beat it in productivity
Sounders with most of the advantages, efficiency & attacking set piece performance working against them
MNUFC: extreme team with good-not-great xG success as a result. Lowest possession average ever recorded in the league! 2nd highest offensive efficiency recorded, while in high company for defensive eff too
I'm personally not reading too much into the opponent performances, at least against Charlotte where I'd argue the central midfielders are less essential than others to that team
Mostly positive signs from the matchup preview, where there will be a pretty big style clash
NYCFC: playing the conventionally protagonist soccer as usual, but still not leaning into any extremes
FC Dallas: attack fast & with the same patterns: out to the wingbacks, in to the central guys, hope they get a goal from there
& I'll end it with the performance plots on the bottom, they earned that supporter's shield. Just excellent across the entire field & debatably could have been even better with some xGF underperformance.

The Cup has to go through Chester & they've earned that right
This scouting report probably tells the most consistent tale of a team between my little subsets. Everywhere you look, signs of their dedicated way of play. I could keep going but I would just be repeating points. The 50-50s one being so high is notably different from other high pressers
commitment. to. the. bit. the opponent will get the ball shoved down their throats no matter what. trap them, win it back, look to score as fast as possible; if it isn't on, get it out to Wagner & let him whip in to crossing runners. 90th in crosses into box!
2025 Philadelphia Union performance percentiles:
SDFC before kicking a ball in 2025 told us all they would be playing to avoid 50-50s & that is clear, but what's crazy as well as funny is that when the ball is in the air they are the 2nd best team in the league at winning it
Strong indications of high pressing, opponents have #1 long pass share attempts. they let the least amount of crosses in - imo because they hardly ever sit in their box to defend so those opportunities aren't there.

Combine 0 crosses with high opponent shot distance = really good defending!
Well committed to the style that prioritizes non-long through balls. also down to shooting business soon after getting in final 3rd.

Been overperforming their shots by just about every metric. Defensive performance metrics are REALLY strong too aside from being the #1 team in errors-to-shots
2025 San Diego FC Performance Percentiles:
