Brits vent fury over mega-dinghy smashing migrant Channel crossing record to new high
#news #breakingnews #uknews #usnews A massive dinghy has shattered records after bringing 125 migrants across the Channel to Britain on a day that saw at least three people including a child lose their lives. The vessel arrived on UK shores on Saturday, carrying the highest number of illegal migrants ever to have made it to the country in a single boat from France, reports The Telegraph. The staggering figure of 125 migrants represents nearly double the average number of asylum seekers packed into small boats making the perilous journey. The news comes as a third migrant deported to France as Labour faces fury as '1000' cross Channel.

Record migrant boat detected in the Channel carrying 125 people
#news #uknews #politics #labour A boat carrying a staggering 125 migrants was detected crossing the Channel, smashing the previous record. The alarming discovery, which comes after smugglers vowed to ramp up their operations in the Channel, will concern the Home Office. Some 895 arrived on 12 boats on Saturday. Among them was a boat carrying 125 people. The previous record was 106. Channel smugglers have vowed to expand their networks and launch even bigger boats, with criminals believing they could send 2,000 people in dinghies every day. They also claimed the Home Office would have to deport 2,000 a week for it to be a deterrent.

Farmer urges Keir Starmer to ditch hated tax raid ‘before this nation goes hungry’
#news #uknews #politics #labour Sir Keir Starmer has been urged to meet farmers "before this nation goes hungry" as hundreds took part in a protest outside Labour's conference. Farmers descended on Liverpool for the demonstration against the controversial inheritance tax raid as the party's annual gathering kicked off today. The Government has faced an ongoing backlash for restricting the 100% inheritance tax relief for farms to the first £1million of combined agricultural and business property in last year's Budget. Celebrity farmer Gareth Wyn Jones, 58, from North Wales, called on the Prime Minister to meet farmers to discuss the issue.

Those born after 1977 given alert on claiming state pension
#news #finance #markets #crypto Those born after 1977 are being warned of a major Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) change in the qualifying criteria for claiming their first payment. The State Pension age is due to rise in the UK to age 67 from 2026, with the change being phased in over a period of two years. But the Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that a further age increase is planned that will affect anyone born after 1977. The State Pension age will rise once again between 2044 and 2046 to age 68, meaning younger generations face an even longer wait until they reach retirement age and can start claiming their pension.

Rachel Reeves considers hiking UK’s biggest tax in huge Budget gamble – it may finish her
#news #money #invest The autumn Budget is less than two months away and Rachel Reeves has boxed herself into a corner. Labour MPs won’t let her slash spending, bond markets won’t let her borrow more, and she won’t abandon her “iron-clad” fiscal rules. That leaves only one option, to hike our taxes again. Worse, the Office for Budget Responsibility is expected to downgrade growth and productivity forecasts, slashing her room for manoeuvre still further. Economists warn Reeves may need to raise as much as £30billion on November 26, or even £40billion, the same as last year’s horror Budget.

UK state pensioners to receive £562 boost in 2026
#news #money #invest British state pensioners on the new state pension will receive a £562 annual boost next year as the state pension rate for 2026/27 was confirmed under triple lock terms. The triple lock ensures pension rises every year in line with whatever is highest out of inflation, wage growth, and 2.5%. Wages are up 4.7% and that is what will determine the latest increase. A 4.7% rise will push the annual rate up to £12,535 - an increase of £562. The payment boost will begin next April. Pension experts at Spencer Churchill Claims Advice said that's a "meaningful increase, especially for those relying heavily on it to cover everyday expenses." However, it will also push pensioners with additional income towards paying income tax for the first time because of frozen tax tresholds.

Sarah Ferguson ‘to play the victim’ over Epstein email scandal after brutal royal snub
#news #breakingnews #uknews #usnews Sarah Ferguson will reportedly be set to "play the victim" over the latest Epstein email scandal after major snub by King Charles. The 76-year-old monarch is said to have banned Prince Andrew and Sarah, both 65, from joining the royals at Sandringham this Christmas. Although Sarah has been seen to survive many previous scandals, including debts and an affair, she has not been so lucky with the latest scandal involving the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Warning as UK town halls ‘paralysed’ by migrant hotel planning farce
#news #uknews #politics #labour Town halls have been “paralysed” by Labour dumping its asylum accommodation nightmare on communities across the country, ministers have been warned. Sir Keir Starmer’s Government was accused of creating “confusion” and “chaos” by failing to give councils new planning guidance on whether permission is required to convert houses or hotels into asylum accommodation. The issue was brutally exposed in the legal battle over The Bell Hotel in Epping, with the hotel’s owners arguing they did not need consent to use the rooms to house Channel migrants.

John McDonnell calls for George Osborne to be tried two days after regaining Labour whip
#news #uknews #politics #labour Labour grandee John McDonnell has said former Chancellor George Osborne should be put on trial for “social crimes”. The former shadow chancellor issued the startling demand at a fringe panel at Labour conference, just two days after regaining the party’s whip in parliament. Mr McDonnell told the fringe event that he “wouldn’t mind trying George Osborne for the social crimes he committed” as he launched into a furious critique of the Tories’ welfare cuts in the 2010s. He added: “I know it sounds exaggerated, but these people need to be held to account.” The left-wing firebrand recounted a number of suicides by those who had their benefits cut during the austerity era, which Mr McDonnell alleged Mr Osborne knew about.

DWP explains how much you will have to earn to affect Universal Credit claim
#news #money #invest People claiming Universal Credit could risk losing part or all of their award depending on how much they earn. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) can deduct some of your or your partner's reward if either is working. While there are no limits to how many hours you can work while still claiming Universal Credit, your wages will have a significant effect. Consequently, if you stop work or if your wages decrease, you could see an increase in your Universal Credit payments. Meanwhile, various other sources of income could see you lose part or all of your Universal Credit claim.

Fury as Rachel Reeves’ youth migration deal blasted as ‘back door to free movement’
#news #uknews #politics #labour Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has accused Rachel Reeves of opening “a back door to free movement” over a potential migration deal with the EU. The Chancellor believes that Britain needs to sign an “ambitious” migration deal with the bloc that would allow young people from Europe to live and work in Britain. The move forms part of her plan to boost the economy and lessen the need for tax rises in the forthcoming budget. Reeves is under pressure to fill a £30 billion black hole in the nation’s finances and has called on the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) to include the benefits of the government’s Brexit reset in its upcoming forecast.
