In the @PlayhouseDerry doing some research. Really looking forward to seeing this & will be watching out for any references to 1798.
We had great craic today with this bunch of United Irishmen & women in the late summer, Saintfield sun. We also had our own Betsy Gray & the most distant visitor to date, OM, all the way from Stratford in London! #VisitMourne Our next tour is in September & 🎟️ 👉🏼 tinyurl.com/1798Saintfie...
I suspect it will require a revolution.

There's a REALLY quick and easy survey for the public consultation on the Basic Income for the Arts scheme - it only takes a few seconds, anyone can fill it in, and it could make a huge difference to arts workers in Ireland. Take a few ticks to places a few ticks here: ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...
The 1798 Rebellion tour is running less than a year, but is already rated by travellers as the #1 thing to do in Saintfield. Join us on Sunday 24th August to hear about the history of revolution here. tinyurl.com/1798Saintfie...
Many thanks to Wexford blacksmith Finin Christie for making this replica pike & to local Permaculture farmer & environmental educator, Phillip Allen for fashioning the 10 yr old hazel rod for the shaft! We’ve tix left for our next tour on Sun 24th Aug, so grab one here: tinyurl.com/1798Saintfie...

This is a brilliant tour for any 1798 heads, or anyone just interested in the history of Saintfield. A full review would ruin all the little surprises Mark, the tour guide, has built in. It’s really worth your time.
Really enjoyed today’s walk with this band of United Irishmen & women! Delighted to have @clairemitchell.bsky.social with us & share her Ghost Limb story. Grab a copy of her book here: www.beyondthepalebooks.com/shopnewbooks...

Take 10 minutes out of your evening to read about the Great Hunger in Newtownards. A superb short film 👏👏👏. Ad Prof Kinealy’s research has shown ( www.qu.edu/faculty-and-...), the situation in Down was much worse during the famine than is usually acknowledged.
We’ve sold out our Saintfield 1798 Anniversary Walking Tour for the evening of June 9th. However, if you want to join us on the afternoon of Sunday 8th, grab the last few tickets here to see where rebels rose, pikes clashed and history was made. 🎟️👉 tinyurl.com/1798Saintfie...

(Sorry for briefly spamming my own prints on here, but unfortunately it's still necessary to make some sort of tenuous living from drawing due to a significant delay in successfully wooing a wealthy bachelor farmer and being whisked off in his John Deere to a life of diamond-encrusted wellies)
A cost-of-living crisis isn't the easiest time to sell art, but: www.ciaraioch.com is where you can support my work, with each archival-quality print on textured heavy paper being produced here in Ireland, shipping internationally in eco-friendly packaging, with free mini-treats in every order 🎁

Did you know that the 1798 Alien & Sedition Act currently in the news in the USA has a United Irishmen connection? At the time thousands emigrated to the USA but the Irish were described as a “mass of vicious and disorganizing characters who can not live peaceably at home.. 1/2
I’d appreciate a share on this one 🙏. I’m trying to find the lyrics of “The Ballad of Samuel Jamison”. They were published by Hugh Shields in 1972 in an article called ‘Some songs and ballads in use in the province of Ulster’ in Ulster Folklife Volume 18 (pp 34-65). Haven’t been able to get a copy.
